In Rebuild from
Depression: A Woman’s Guide, Including Depression in Pregnancy and
Postpartum,
Amanda Rose, Ph.D. identifies the six nutrients most commonly
associated with depression in the medical literature. She
argues that even women who are past the acute state of postpartum
depression should identify the nutrient imbalances that made them
susceptible to depression in the first place. Too much or not
enough of those same nutrients may still be causing related health
problems months or decades after the postpartum experience.
Rose provides readers with tools to:
1.
Identify a nutrient deficiency
2. Locate the best supplements, and
3. Select and prepare foods to maximize those nutrients in their
diet.
She presents “depression buster” foods – those foods highest in
some combination of the six nutrients associated with
depression.
